With regards to president Nana Addo Dankwah Akoffo Addo to prevent illegal mining in the country, the chief executive officer of ROB mining groups of companies in the Ashanti region, Mr. Osei Bempah has congratulated him for such a bold decision.

He said, Galamsey operations has arguably been the caused of polluting water bodies in the country. Adding that, not ony has galamsey operators polluted our water bodies, but also affecting the environment, thus putting the safety and lives of the people in danger.

Mr. Osei Bempah continued that, while the government intends to promote irrigation schemes, our various water from these mining areas are poluted with toxins which is apparently affecting crop production and our health in the country.

He made these statements in an interview with the media during the construction of a three kilometre Road for the farming community called Madaa in the Atwima Mponua district in the Ashanti region to their various farms, as part of his corporate social responsibility for the people.

While commending the government for taking bold steps to finding a lasting solution to the menace of illegal mining, Mr. Bempah who is the CEO of ROB said, it must be regulated and managed well. In order for the country to benefit from its natural resources, most especially the people of the mining communities.

“The negative impact of these mining activities have become a very big problem, thus poluting water bodies, diversion of water bodies from their main courses affect people at the downstream who depend on the water for irrigation and other uses,” he bemoaned.

He further stressed on the need for all stakeholders to support the government in fighting the course, or in any case, intensify public education about the danger of land degradation, so that all miners will cover pits and replace trees after mining.
