On August 22, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo highlighted the pivotal role of education in his government’s agenda during the commissioning of the Silver Jubilee Building at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale.’
President Akufo-Addo, in a resolute tone, reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to education as a fundamental tool for national transformation in his address.
He emphasized that the government’s substantial investment in education, including the No Guarantor Policy, aims to eliminate financial barriers and enhance access to tertiary education for young Ghanaians.
“This three-storey complex, which houses lecture halls and offices, is not just a building; it symbolizes our shared vision for a brighter future and our dedication to providing quality education for all,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
He expressed profound pride in fulfilling a promise made during UDS’s 25th-anniversary celebration in 2018, emphasizing that the building represents a significant milestone in advancing education in Ghana.
The President praised the new Silver Jubilee Building for supporting innovation and intellectual growth at UDS, with its state-of-the-art facilities and conducive learning environment.
He called on all universities in Ghana to strengthen collaborations with industry and government to ensure that research and teaching contribute effectively to the nation’s development goals.
