The Presidency has denied reports that the newly sworn in Minister of Defence Gen Aliyu Gusau has resigned his appointment.

Media reports had earlier reported that Gusua had resigned his appointment as he was not at the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.

However briefing journalists at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday evening, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Rueben Abati, said the report was untrue.

He noted that the minister had been absent from the FEC meeting “with the permission of the President” adding that “Gusau still remained the defence minister”.

The media has been rife with reports that the newly appointed defence minister may not have settled totally into office as some conditions he gave the government before accepting the appointment were yet to be met.
