The first round of the 2014/15 First Capital Plus Ghana Premier League came to an end on Wednesday with Liberty Professionals defeating second placed-Aduana Stars in Accra to win the Club of the Week award with 350 ranking points.

Asante Kotoko comfortably accounted for Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium winning 4-0 to finished the first part of the season as the second best performed side of Week 15 having amassed 225 ranking points.

Liberty defeat a Top-4 side

Liberty professionals was the only team that was able to defeat a Top-4 side on Wednesday thanks to Charles Dwamena?s solitary effort that defeated Aduana stars and that defeat means the ?Ogya boys? complete the first round of the league outside the second place. Going into the game, Aduana stars were the second strongest and most credible opponents with anOpposition Strength(O.S) of 1.75?and this was bettered only by league leaders Ashantigold whose strength was 1.875?and this explains why Liberty massively enhanced their ranking points by clinching a clean sheet win over Aduana Stars.

Asante Kotoko see another masterclass

Asante Kotoko might not have started their title defence well but they have sent out a clear statement about their intent as their 4-0 victory over Heart of Lions is the biggest win margin 0f the season after fifteen weeks of grueling league actions. No side has ever won a game by this margin-not even the league commanders Ashantigold could do that.Despite this big win, Kotoko got 225 ranking points and emerged second best performed side to Liberty due to the fact that they faced an opponent that was not comparatively stronger as the opponents of Liberty professionals. The analysis is simple.

Lions were placed 7th on the league table and came with an O.S of 1.125 which means they were a weaker side as compared to Aduana Stars who were 2nd and had an O.S of 1.75.

On the simple face of it, Kotoko would be picked by many fans and analysts as the best side of the Week but the statistics lovers have different ideas.

Hearts of Oak deny Ashantigold

The 1-1 draw at Len Clay is clearly a favorable result for the Herbet Addo?s Hearts of Oak as they picked a point at a venue which has been difficult to do this season and that fact that the Phobians who lied 10th on the table and the Miners who occupied the 1st place on the league table means Hearts of Oak gave a good account of themselves in Obuasi on Wednesday.

Inter Allies, Hasaacas, BA United, Aduana Stars, Heart of Lions all lost their games-earning zero points therefore making the resultant of their ranking points calculations also zero.
