Portugal has “no reservation” regarding the new U.S. administration led by Donald Trump, Portugal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs said on Friday, adding that a meeting with his U.S. counterpart was being planned.

“Portugal has no reservation relating to the new U.S. administration. It has and will have the same relationship it had with the previous administration,” Augusto Santos Silva said during a hearing at the parliamentary committee of foreign affairs and Portuguese communities.

Santos Silva added that the United States was a “neighbor” of Portugal and an “ally” as well as a “bilateral partner” due to the Lajes military based in the Portuguese Azores islands.

He said the Portuguese government saw no “yellow alert” regarding the situation of the Portuguese community in the United States but said he would be following “any inflexibility in the immigration policy” closely.
