Many adults view pornography as a fairly harmless guilty pleasure ? but recent studies suggest otherwise.

Medical Daily reports that porn users respond to their vice in much the same way heroin users or alcoholics react to their ?fix?.

More disturbingly, regular consumption can re-wire people?s brains to crave more.

Like hard drugs, alcohol and sex, porn causes the release of dopamine in the brain ? and the repeated surges of the ?pleasure chemical? can be damaging for users.

But two recent studies suggest that porn users actually become deadened to the surge of dopamine ? and crave more porn, or increasingly extreme experiences.

One study published in JAMA Psychiatry in 2014 found that users become desensitized ? and find themselves watching more porn to compensate.

The response is not dissimilar to a drug addict craving his or her next high, medical daily said.
