Population crisis threatens to wipe out Japan’s kids

Researchers at Tohoku University Graduate School in Japan have made the alarming predictionthat in 999 years, Japan will have zero children under the age of 15. The team has developed a child population clock, which uses existing population data to estimate the number of children at any given time.

Between 2011 and 2012, Japan’s under-15 population dropped from 16.9 million to 16.6 million, with the clock showing that number will continue to fall by one every 100 seconds until it eventually reaches zero on May 18, 3011.
