Armed Fulani herdsman arrested in Riyom, Plateau

Officers of the Plateau State Police Command, alongside a village vigilante group, on Monday, foiled a planned attacked by armed Fulani herdsmen in Kwakwi village of Riyom Local Government Area of the state.

One of the suspected assailants was apprehended after a hot chase by the Police and the vigilante group.

It will be recalled that in July, similar attacks claimed the lives of two prominent lawmakers and hundreds of other residents in the council.

Eyewitnesses said the would-be assailants were dressed in black attires.

The State Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Ayeni, who confirmed the arrest of one of the assailants, said one AK-47 rifle and 28 rounds of ammunition were recovered in a joint effort with the vigilante group.

?A gang of criminals invaded Kwakwi village in Riyom council and the youths mobilised and prevented them from carrying out their devilish act,? he said.

?A phone call was made to the Riyom Divisional Police and a patrol team with the youths swung into action and were able to capture the suspect with his AK-47 rifle.?

Ayeni, who confirmed that there was no casualty in the averted attack, urged citizens to remain alert and give credible information to the Police in order to help fight crime in the state.
