An attack on Katangi village in Birnin-Gwari area of Nigeria’s northern state of Kaduna has left five persons dead, the police said Sunday.

State police spokesperson Yakubu Sabo who confirmed the attack to Xinhua, said three armed men and two police personnel were killed during the attack while six civilians sustained injuries, and the remaining attackers escaped into the bush with bullet wounds.

Those injured, Sabo said, were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Sabo said the armed men in large numbers invaded the Katangi village Saturday evening, shooting sporadically which left the villagers scampering for their lives.

Most of those affected were attending a wedding at the residence of the district head when the attackers came, Sabo said. Enditem
