The accused person escaped from the courtroom during an interview with the Social Welfare Officer, Samuel Boadi, who was there to obtain adequate information after the court proceedings.

The Magistrate William Baffoe earlier referred the accused person, who had been charged with stealing to the Remand Home after the prosecution declared his age.

The accused person, who broke a louver blade which resulted in a cut on the hand, managed to leave the courtroom after jumping from the first floor.

He later ran to the beach and started swimming.

A team of police officers managed to grab him in the sea.

The prosecutor, Inspector Christiana Sampong told the court that the complainant in the case is one Ato Kwamina, a fisherman at Kakaano, a suburb of Cape Coast.

Prosecution stated that on December 10, when the complainant went to work, the accused person entered his room and stole GH?300 and two Nokia mobile phones valued at GH?180.

Inspector Sampong said while the accused person was running away with the money and mobile phones, an eyewitness spotted him and alerted the complainant.

She further said that the accused person on December 11 was seen in the same vicinity and?was arrested and sent to the Central Regional Office of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU).

Inspector Sampong added that the accused person, after interrogation, admitted the offence and said that he handed them to his accomplice, who is currently on the run.
