A 25-year-old man identified as Stanley Ahadzi was shot dead by a police officer early Sunday morning at the Koans Estate in Kuntunse Satellite, near Adjen Kotoku.

The shooting occurred around 3:00 AM when Constable Smith Gyekyi of the International Relations Directorate (IRD) was operating a commercial Matiz vehicle, registered GW 6459-21.

Constable Gyekyi had picked up a passenger, Esther Owusua, from Ablekuma Joma and was headed to the Koans Estate area.

Upon arriving at the estate, Owusua realized she had lost her way and contacted Ahadzi for assistance. When Ahadzi arrived at the estate gate, a dispute erupted over the fare charged by Constable Gyekyi.

The argument escalated rapidly, and Constable Gyekyi reportedly drew his sidearm and shot Ahadzi multiple times.

Crime scene investigators responded to the distress call and found Ahadzi lying in a supine position with gunshot wounds and blood covering his body.

His body has been taken to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation pending an autopsy.

Constable Smith Gyekyi voluntarily turned himself in at the Amasaman Police Station.

He has been detained, and his service pistol has been confiscated for further investigation. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under detailed scrutiny by the authorities.
