Two of the suspects were once arrested for criminal activities

The Lagos State Police Command killed four suspected armed robbers on Friday during an exchange of gunfire at the Ilasamaja area of Lagos, witnesses said.

According to witnesses, the police responded to a distress call from residents of Ibadan Street in Ilasamaja, which the bandits invaded at about 1 a.m.

?On sighting the police, they opened gunfire and the police retaliated, leaving four of the hoodlums dead, while the others fled the scene of the robbery,” a witness said. “The suspects are boys from this area. They have been terrorising this area for some time and their activities have been worrisome.”

When contacted, Ngozi Braide, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying that three locally made shotguns, five live cartridges and three mobile phones were recovered from the robbers.

?Two of the suspects were once arrested for criminal offence before and were released on bail,? Braide said.

She appealed to the public, particularly native doctors in Ilasamaja and other areas, to report any person receiving treatment for gunshot wounds.
