… Search Continues

The Ghana Police Service has cracked down on a known armed-robbery syndicate of four that has been operating in within the Greater Accra, especially having expatriates as their targets.

080213-1150(001)The robbery syndicate has been pulled down with three of its members currently in the police custody. One is at large, and the police is still on their search for him.

Meanwhile the leader of the said syndicate, one Sham Sudi Atukwei Klottey has been traced to his hide out at Oda where he engaged the police team in a shoot out which eventually led to his death.

Briefing the media, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander C.O.P Mr. Patrick Timbillah explained that the police being made aware of the operations of the syndicate, set out to look for them, and on 6th February 2013, two were arrested. The two according to C.O.P Timbillah are Amadu Mahamudu, 24 and Jalilu Masawudu also 24.

According to C.O.P Timbillah the leader of the syndicate upon seeing the police team at his hide out in Oda, opened fire where he was shot. Items found on him were a locally manufactured pistol, five bullets and two ?Bazulas? used to open any lock.

He also mentioned that the said syndicate had been involved in several operations among which are the robbery attack on an Egyptian, Mustapha Anewa at a forex bureau, a German, Emma Martins and a Spanish Christiana Lopez.

Emma Martins and Christiana Lopez have all been flown to their respective countries for medical treatment after sustaining degrees of gun shot from the robbers during the operations.

C.O.P Patrick Timbillah averred that what was most worrying about the operations of the said syndicate was their selective robbery. ?Their main target was expatriates, and this had been a source of worry to us,? he said.

The Police Commissioner assured the general public and expatriates of the police?s readiness to ensure a safe community for all. He called on the general public not to harbour any fear as the known syndicate had been broken.

He also appealed to the general public to volunteer information on the member of the group who is at large and on any other robbery gang so as to help the police ensure peace and security.

He believes the police will soon clamp down on the run-away member of the group. ?We are calling on him to surrender. He can run but he can?t hide.?
