A robber was also nabbed in Ijeshatedo

The Lagos State Police Command, during the weekend, disclosed the arrest of a scrap dealer, Momoh Gani, for using his job as cover to trade in ammunition.

According to the police, Gani allegedly sold a car along with ammunition to one Yahaya Idris.

The State Police Spokesperson, Ngozi Braide, said that one K2 and two AK-49 rifles were recovered from an auctioned scrap Daewoo Racer Saloon Car traced to a mechanic workshop at Ajegunle.

Braide added that police officers attached to Trinity Police Station, who were responsible for the arrest, had acted on a tip-off.

She warned buyers of auctioned and fairly used cars to be vigilant, to avoid purchasing cars with arms and ammunition.

In a related development, Braide confirmed that an armed robber was killed in a shoot-out with police officers attached to Ijeshatedo Police Station along Odo-Olowu Street, Ijeshatedo.

She said some other robbers escaped with bullet wounds.

“The robbers robbed one Mustapha Kareem of No. 2A, Olubunmi Alonge Street, Ijeshatedo. Two live cartridges and the robbed motorcycle were recovered from the robbers. The case is under investigation at State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba,” she said.
