Yusuf also slapped her tenants after an altercation over toilet cleaning

A 35-year-old landlady on Tuesday, appeared before a Somolu Magistrate Court, in Lagos for threatening to stab her tenant.

The landlady, Taiwo Yusuf of No 22 Olorunkemi Street, Bariga, was said to have brought out a knife and threatened to stab the tenant, Adeola Adekoya.

Yusuf was arraigned on a two-count charge of assault and threat to life.Before the alleged threat to life, the defendant was said to have slapped Adekoya’s daughter,following an altercation over the cleaning of the toilet.

“Adekoya accosted the landlady for slapping her daughter and in the ensuing argument, the landlady brought out a knife, threatening to stab the tenant,” the prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Adegoke Akinlebi told the court.

The defendant however denied the charges, saying that she was only trying to maintain her house.

“Yes, I slapped them (Adekoya and child) both, but I didn?t threaten anyone with a knife. I have repeatedly told them to keep the toilets clean, I cannot stand dirty toilets,” she said.

Magistrate Bola Osunsanmi granted the defendant bail of N50,000 and one surety in like sum, and adjourned the case to August 22, 2012 for trial.
