Tamale (N/R), Feb 27, GNA – The ongoing pilot biometric voters’ registration exercise is progressing at the Dabokpa Technical Institute in the Tamale Metropolis.
Registration officials at the centre told the Ghana News Agency that the day-three exercise had not encountered any challenges.
The equipment being used for the exercise includes thumb-print scanner, a laptop computer,  a webcam and a printer, which are running on rechargeable batteries.
Nana Ama Akomeah, Registration Officer at the Centre, said patronage was high and that on the first day, 97 people were registered and 125 people were registered on the second day.
She said it took about two minutes to take personal details of an applicant, but capturing of finger-print details by the scanner sometimes took about 10 minutes.
Nana Akomeah said there was also a team of technicians to rectify any challenges that the equipment might present.
GNA, however, observed that registration officers were not demanding proof of nationality from applicants before registering them.

Another centre at Tali R/C Primary School in Tolon District    in the Northern Region was functioning.
The pilot , which precedes the nation-wide biometric voters’ registration being organized by the Electoral Commission, ends tomorrow February 28, 2012.
