Majeed Waris signed for Lorient

Stade Rennes manager Philippe Montanier admits he is gutted at missing the opportunity to sign Ghana striker Abdul Majeed Waris.

Lorient stepped up their bid to hijack the deal to sign the 23-year-old Ghanaian immediately he touched down in France on Wednesday.

Rennes had secured an agreement with Tranzonspor to sign Waris who was only to travel to France to undergo a medical and sign a contract.

The former BK Hacken man however surprisingly ended up at Lorient where he completed a five-year move for a reported ?5.2m ? leaving the folks at Rennes red-faced.

And manager Philippe Montanier wasted no time at all in expressing his disappointment ovefr the development.

?We are disappointed,? he admitted.

?We had an agreement on the transfer by fax with Trabzonspor. The club was ok for us to discuss with the player and he was to undergo a medical examination.

?But we had external information the next day saying that Lorient had outbid our offer and Trabzonspor agreed with the club.

?Trabzonspor never gave us new, which is not normal.?

Majeed Waris is widely believes to be joining Lorient as the direct replacement for compatriot Jordan Ayew who moved to Aston Villa only a fortnight ago.
