Lagos State Fire Service

The Director of Lagos State Fire Service, Mr. Rasak Fadipe, has urged Petroleum Filling Station Dealers? to assist the State Fire Service by throwing their Gates open to sell fuel in order for the service to operate Fire Fighting Engines.

Speaking on Tuesday through a press statement made available to our correspondent, the Lagos fire service boss appealed to petroleum product dealers to come to the aid of the body as the lack of fuel has hampered its operations in recent times.

Fadipe stated that Fire Service Activity is a Social and Essential Service with statutory roles that borders around the Safety of Lives and Properties. Therefore, the unflinching support of Filling Stations is required in this trying period in order to avoid Fire Fighting Vehicles Running out of Fuel.

According to the statement, ?outbreak of fire caused by careless handling and storage of Petroleum Products in this Period has been on the increase resulting into colossal loss of Properties and threat to Lives.?

In the past 24days of May 2015 alone, 114 (One Hundred and Fourteen) Emergencies have been effectively responded to with details:

i. Fire Call 103

ii. Rescue Call 6

iii. False Call 5

iv. Total 114

Victims Rescued Alive: 2

Victims Recovered Suspected Dead: 3

Estimated Properties Saved: N6.84B

Estimated Properties Loss: N1.14B

?Due to the exigency of Fire Service Activities, priority is thus solicited for the Fire Fighting Engines while the Public is enjoined to cooperate and allow easy access at Filling Station. Motorists are strongly advised not to store Petrol in their Boots, especially Commercial Vehicles.?

According to Fadipe, filling stations should avoid dispensing Fuel in Polythene Bags and also to desist from late selling in order to prevent situations that could lead to an outbreak of Fire.

Consequently, any Fire Outbreak spotted, especially in this Period of Fuel Scarcity, should be quickly reported to the Fire Service for prompt action on Toll free nos. 767 or 112 and the Fire Service direct line 08033235891.
