Swedru-based dancehall artist Patapaa has sparked debate by claiming musicians who gain fame solely through TikTok lack the recognition and catalog to be considered true celebrities.

In an interview with Amansan Krakye monitored by MyNewsGh.com, the “One Corner” hitmaker asserted: “TikTok artists can’t compare to stars like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, or myself. They may have one viral song, but nobody knows their face on the streets.” He emphasized that established artists dominate show bookings due to their extensive discographies.

Patapaa revealed he now avoids events because they’re increasingly filled with “TikTok stars who only have one song to perform.” His comments highlight growing tensions between social media-driven artists and Ghana’s traditional music industry hierarchy.

The critique comes as TikTok reshapes music consumption, with some Ghanaian tracks gaining international traction through viral challenges while struggling to sustain mainstream relevance.
