yemen-rebelsThe Foreign Ministry said the foreigners include eight Chinese, 11 Indians and four Britons. The remaining belong to the United Arab Emirates, Canada and Philippines, official said.

Pakistan Navy officers and embassy officials greeted the passengers, who were holding small Pakistani flags.
The Foreign Ministry says the PNS “Aslat” was sent to Yemen’s southeastern city of Mokallah on April 3 to evacuate the stranded Pakistanis and foreigners.

The situation in Mokallah, where Pakistan had the third big community of its nationals in Yemen, had been relatively safe earlier; however it became critical following an al-Qaida jail break. Roads leading to the port had been closed.

Therefore, the operation was switched to nearby Ash Shihr port where 146 Pakistanis had been safely evacuated. A total of 36 foreign nationals requiring emergency evacuation also boarded the frigate.
There had been nearly 3,000 Pakistanis residing in Yemen and 1, 800 of Pakistani expatriates had earlier left the conflict- stricken country.
