Outspoken Operations Director of the friends of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings (FONKAR) has eaten back his words at the Police Headquarters today after hours of grilling over allegations against first lady Ernestina Naadu Mills according to a FONKAR member.

According to a member of the group, George Boateng, Ernest Owusu Bempah told the police that he made the wild allegations against the first lady due to anger over insults heaped on them by the communications director at the presidency, Koku Anyidoho.

The FONKAR operations director alleged on an Accra-based radio station that Mrs. Mills received US$ 5 million from the embattled businessman, Alfred Woyome, who is being tried in the infamous judgment debt saga.

Ernest Owusu-Bempah, honoured an invitation to the Bureau of National Investigations for alleging that the First Lady, Mrs. Naadu Mills, was a beneficiary of the GhC51 million judgment debt payment but was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Headquarters for further interrogation.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii-Sen on Wednesday, George Boateng who is an active member of FONKAR noted that during interrogation by the police, Ernest Owusu Bempah admitted not having any evidence but pleaded for mercy.

“As I speak to you now Owusu Bempah has been detained because he told the police he had no evidence but spoke because Koku Anyidoho insulted FONKAR members. I can say boisterously that nobody sent him or told him to go and speak that way because he has no evidence. He just spoke like that and we have asked him to retract but to no avail”.

Mr. George Boateng pleaded to President Mills to temper mercy with justice and release Owusu Bempah from cells because “we are all in the same party”. I am pleading with President Mills to help release Owusu Bempah because he spoke out of anger. He had no evidence and that he lied so please Mr. President, help make him released”.

“We are pleading with President Mills that he should look at the supreme interest of the party and get him released. We are party in power and needs to retain power and actions like this will not help us as a party. What we believe as a group is that Owusu Bempah lied and had no facts at all in anyway so we are apologizing dearly” he asserted.

Mr. George Boateng warned that actions of the Director Of Communications at the presidency triggers reactions like what Owusu Bempah said so “President Mills as a matter of urgency call Koku to order. We are telling the president that if he does not warn Koku top desist from attacks on FONKAR, we cannot also sit unconcern but react harshly”
