The Obomengman Association in Accra, Tema, Takoradi and the Northern part of the country have awarded 65 hardworking and dedicated teachers at Obomeng in the kwahu South District of the Eastern Region.

The gesture was to help promote quality education in the community and beyond.

The teachers were selected from basic public schools including the Obomeng Anson Senior High School.

Speaking on the theme: “Quality Education Delivery, The Role of Stakeholders”, Mr. Siaw Ampadu, the Chairman of the Obomengman Association in Accra, Tema and Takoradi said the association set aside Gh¢25,000.00 to ensure the success of the programme.

Some of the items presented to the awardees included deep freezers, gas cooker, television sets, standing fans among others.

He said it was a five- year programme introduced by the association to continuously reward hardworking teachers in communities under the Obomeng traditional area.

He hinted that the programme would soon be extended to smaller communities such as Wawase, Odumase among others.

Mr. Ampadu said the association had plans of collaborating with the Kwahu South District Education Directorate to modernize some selected public schools to be on the same standard with some of the private schools in the area.

He disclosed of plans to also construct bungalows for teachers posted to the area to help ease the accommodation challenges.

In a speech read on behalf of the Kwahu South Director of Education, Mr. Sampson Klu, Head of the Human Resource Department of the GES commended the association for the gesture but pleaded to the government to recognize Obomeng community when selections were being done for the National Teachers Awards to help lift the image of the community.

Nana Effah Opinamang III, the Chief of Obomeng on the other hand urged the teachers to abide by the rules and regulations put in place by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to help promote quality teaching and learning in the country.

He entreated parents to take their wards to school to ensure the nation has more literate population.

Nana Opinamang therefore have the assurance that they were doing their best to construct and renovate schools within their jurisdiction to help create an enabling environment for quality education delivery.

The program was also used to launch a five year educational plan, an initiative of the Association.
