Osu Presby receiving an Award

Osu Presbyterian Senior High School (SHS) Choir has won the Sounds of Music SHS Choir Competition held in Accra.

The ceremony, which was organized by the Centre for National Culture in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES), featured eight senior high school choirs in Accra.

The schools, Osu Presbyterian, Labone SHS, Nungua SHS, Legon Presbyterian, Action SHS, Twumasi Boateng SHS, Osu Salem and His Majesty SHS, took on each other in a vocal battle to gain the votes of the three judges from the Music Department of the University of Ghana.

Singing three compulsory songs ? (Yen Ara Asase Ne), a created song by the school choir, and any known song of their choice ? Osu Presby Choir, who emerged winners of the competition with 75.6 point, was followed by Labone SHS with 70.3 and Nungua SHS with 64points.

 The schools who competed received certificates and two boxes of Indomie Instant Noodles each. In addition to this, the winner was awarded a trophy and a trip to Shai-Hills, sponsored by Wildlife Division.    

The aim of the event is to promote patriotism, choral music and singing in general in the senior high schools.

Freeman A. Aguri, the Director of Cultural Education of GES said the major concern of the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the GES is for people worldwide to recognize younger generations who have succeeded in building a strong and prosperous nation.

He added that ?GES sees Ghana?s Education Policy as a dynamic progressive culture and inculcate our culture into pupils and students as they grow up through programmes or events of this nature?.
