The Chief and people of the Osu Traditional Area have held a grand durbar to climax this year?s annual homowo festival on the theme ?Celebrating five years of a new leadership, Unity and Peace for a better Osu community.?

The festival was also to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the reign of the Osu ?Mantse,? Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI.

Present at the durbar was the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), Hon Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana, the Netherlands Ambassador to Ghana and other governments functionaries.

Addressing the gathering, the Osu Mantse, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI expressed enthusiasm in the existing peace that has been experienced among his subjects since his enstoolment five years ago as the legitimate and certified chief of the area.

Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona, who is also the president of the Osu Traditional Council said the rightful occupant of the stool has been determined by the Osu stool ?Gyaase?, the Ga Traditional Council and all the legal bodies mandated for such purposes.

He noted that Chieftaincy dispute regarding the Osu stool has now become a thing of the past as he is now recognised as the true ruler of the Osu paramountcy.

?Now that we have experienced litigation free under my five years tenure of good leadership and service, it would be of great importance that the indigenes must collectively join forces to transform the arena?, he advised.

As part of the celebration, the Chief and elders of the area have launched the Osu Mantse Community Development Initiative (OMANCODI) ? a community development fund to help reduce maternal and infant mortality rate in the area.

The fund is also aimed at developing the main occupation of the people of the area, which is predominantly fishing, and also alleviate poverty in the community.

Meanwhile, the Osu stool intends setting up a community bank, an educational fund, a multipurpose business complex and a Traditional Council secretariat for the stool.

In the light of the above, Nii Okwei Kinka Dowuona VI sent a clarion call to the government and all occupants of the Osu land to pay their royalties to facilitate the achievement of the above mentioned profits.

He further cautioned the media to be fair in their reportage regarding issues involving the Osu chieftaincy, but stressed that such must focused on the accelerated growth and development of the area.

The Mayor Hon Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije in his address assured the people that the government through the AMA will help the stool to turn its vision of accelerated development into reality, noting that the Better Ghana Agenda of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would positively affect the people of Osu.
