Okofo Katakyi Nyakoh Eku the Tenth, Omanhene of the Agona Nyakrom Traditional Area, has made a passionate appeal to President Dramani Mahama, to create a new district for the traditional area, to accelerate its development.

Okofo Eku who made the appeal in an interaction with the Media to outline programmes outlined for this year?s Nyakrom Akwambo Festival, said, the 2010 Population and Housing Census recommended that Agona Nyakrom should have a separate district.

He said the quick response from the President would be a great joy to the chiefs and people of the traditional area.

Okofo Eku said the population of Agona Swedru and other few towns, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census, could also create a Municipality without the involvement of Nyakrom and others.

The Omanhene disclosed that the population of Nyakrom was over 90,000 more than the 75,000 required for a district.

He further disclosed that the Akwambo festival celebration would begin from August 3 to 9, with activities such as a clean-up exercise with the Nyakrom Development Association and Zoomlion Company on August 6. to be attended by himself, sub-chiefs, Abusuapanyin Nana Atta, keep fit clubs, and the entire residents, to tidy the Nyakrom township.

He said many activities would also be undertaken, which include the two Asafo companies exhibiting true cultural practices, clearing of paths and a non-denominational church service to climax the celebration,

He said the chiefs and people would raise funds to facilitate the rehabilitation of an old building to be used as a Magistrate Court, adding that the Assembly has decided to assist the rehabilitation but the people must take the initiative.

The Omanhene urged the people of Nyakrom, both home and abroad, to grace the occasion and assist the development of the town, since the government alone could not shoulder all the developmental programmes.

He urged the residents to contribute their quota to ensure the rapid development of Agona Nyakrom,

The Omanhene hinted that the University of Cape Coast (UCC) had opened its Campus at Agona Nyakrom to help the youth to improve their education.
