AWKA – THE Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State yesterday said the female suspect paraded by the State Security Service, SSS, along with eight others over alleged robbery was not a student of the institution.

23-year-old Miss Blessing Orji was arrested with her boyfriend in a hotel in Awka during which she told officials of SSS that she was an accounting student of Federal Polytechnic, Oko.

Public Relations Officer, PRO, of the Polytechnic, Mr. Obini Onuchukwu, in a statement, said from the school records, Miss Blessing Orji, who was one of the paraded suspects and who claimed to be a student of the institution, was never a student of the polytechnic..

According to Onuchukwu, the accountancy department of the Polytechnic where the suspect claimed she belonged had gone through the records and discovered that the suspect was never a student in that department.

The PRO stated that students of the Polytechnic were currently preparing for the first semester examination, adding that the said Orji was probably paid to tarnish the image of the polytechnic.

He said the report was not only misleading but also unfortunate, regretting that such reports could present the polytechnic in bad light.

He said: “The Federal Polytechnic Oko because of the tremendous transformation witnessed in the last two years remained one of the most sought institutions by students.

“Apart from the physical infrastructure and enabling environment being put in place by the management, the Polytechnic has produced several scholars who were awarded presidential honours during their National Youths Service Corps because of spectacular contributions to community development and scholars who have excelled in their academic fields.”
