The alleged prostitutes

The Western Regional Police Command arrested 35 alleged commercial sex workers in a swoop conducted by personnel of the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) of the regional command in certain parts of Takoradi last Friday night.

DAILY GUIDE gathered that the swoop was conducted around the Vienna City Night Club and Zenith Hotel, both in Takoradi.

Confirming the arrest in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, ASP Olivia Ewurabena Adiku explained that upon assumption of office, the new Regional Police Commander, DCOP Alex Quainoo, received several complaints about harassments of people who visited the entertainment centres by the commercial sex workers.

?Sometimes visitors come out of their cars in front of these entertainment centres with their family and they are greeted with calls from commercial sex workers which make them very uncomfortable,? she added.

She continued, ?So the move last Friday evening was part of the measures to eliminate the activities of the commercial sex workers at the various entertainment centres in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis.?

ASP Adiku indicated that the exercise which lasted about three hours, saw ladies form different countries including Nigeria and Liberia being arrested.

According to the Regional Police PRO, the exercise, which was the first under the new Western Regional Commander, followed a similar one conducted sometime ago under former Regional Commander DCOP Nathan Kofi Boakye and stressed that it would continue unabated.

She told DAILY GUIDE that all the alleged commercial sex workers were in police custody and that a decision would be taken on them today.
