Ogun State House of Assembly has once again extended the tenure of the state’s 20 local government caretaker committees. The extension, which is for three months, was the third time that the Assembly leadership would extend the tenure of the Councils.

The motion for the approval of the extension was moved last Tuesday by the Majority Leader, Jolaosho Israel and supported by Salmon Adeleke. While supporting the motion, some lawmakers canvassed proper accounting and records of income and expenditure of each of the councils since their inauguration in July last year.

The House also passed a resolution calling on residents to clean their surroundings particularly drains in front of their houses and shops. In a related development, the lawmakers had advised the state Water Corporation to intensify efforts in its revenue generation drive to justify government’s huge investments on regular water supply.

The Chairman, Assembly Committee on Energy, Water Resources and Rural Development, Olusegun Elemide, gave the charge yesterday during a meeting of the committee with management of the Ministry of Special Duties and Water Corporation.

Elemide, who stressed that the state government was investing huge resources on water supply, charged them to put more efforts to ensure that some returns were made to the government’s coffers. Olusola Sonuga, representing Ikenne State Constituency, called for wider distribution of water to all parts of the state.
