DAMASCUS — The Syrian army forces backed by Russian airstrikes and Iranian militias have advanced in the southern countryside of the northern province of Aleppo, as part of the broad offensive the military general command declared recently, a military source told Xinhua on Sunday.

ADEN, Yemen — The Yemeni government agreed to attend peace talks held by the United Naitons in order to put an end to the current civil war, a spokesman told Xinhua on Sunday.

KIEV — At least 14 people were killed after their boat on a fishing trip capsized in the Black Sea near Ukraine’s southern port city of Odessa on Saturday, authorities said Sunday.

CAIRO — Egyptians began on Sunday voting in the country’s first parliamentary election in three years amid reluctance of people to cast their votes for Islamists or officials of the former president Hosni Mubarak.

KABUL — Amid ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan, the government forces conducted air strikes against Taliban hideouts in Taliban former stronghold the southern Helmand province Sunday morning, killing 18 insurgents, a security official said.

“Acting on tip-off, the warplanes carried out air raids and struck Taliban hideouts in Loimanda area of Nad Ali district of Helmand province on Sunday morning, killing 18 rebels on the spot,” army spokesman in the province, Brigadier Mohammad Rasoul Zazai told Xinhua. (Afghanistan-Taliban) Enditem
