An internationally acclaimed Institute reputed for ranking of universities across the globe, cybermetrics of Spain, has again, ranked and rated Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as the best University in Nigeria, for the fourth (4th) consecutive time.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that the webometric ranked the curricular, research, academic and general administration of the University as the best in Nigeria.

Reacting, the vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bamitale Omole, described the rating as unprecedented, adding that it was the first time in the history of University education in Africa where a Nigerian University would be adjudged, rated and ranked the first and the best for the fourth (4th) time running.

 Omole emphasised the need for all private sectors to urgently partner with the government in providing enough financial and material resources to meet the needs of the Universities, particularly in the provision of structural and infrastructural facilities.

The vice-Chancellor lauded the dedication to duty of all academic and administrative staff whose personal and group sacrifice have made the new ranking an inevitable possibility.

He added that his administration would continue to provide the needed leadership to all and sundry, adding that training and retraining of staff both locally and internationally, would always be the his priority.

Omole said that he would not rest on his oars until Obafemi Awolowo University becomes the first and the best University in Africa.

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders in the nation?s education sector to ensure that policies that are appropriate for the socio-economic needs of the country are formulated for entrepreneurship agendum.
