Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party? (NPP) has reminded all party faithful, followers, especially the Party?s communicators that the Party is on a Redemption Mission to save Ghana from the current Maladministration of ?the John Mahama led-government of the National Democratic Party (NDC) and so they must be mindful of what they say about fellow party members on all media platforms.
To this end, any member found wanting in this respect will be severely dealt with accordingly he warned. Adding that the issue of Party members taking the law into their own hands regarding unnecessary demonstrations and court actions is a matter of grave concern to the leadership of the party and for which reason indiscipline was discussed at the National Council (NC) meeting yesterday. ?In attendance, Former President Kuffour, ?Flagbearer Nana Addo-Dankwa, Dr Bawunia, C.k Tedam, and many more.
The General Secretary gave this warning this morning on OkFm during an interview to throw more light on some of the decisions taken at the NC meeting. This followed a serious of protest from the rank and file of the party against the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to reserve certain parliamentary seats along the coastal areas of the Greater Accra region for indigenes among others. Indeed this indiscipline was exhibited by some even when the NC was in closed door meeting yesterday.
Indiscipline
He has directed all those who are communicating for the party and wish to support any candidate should renounce their positions before doing so. Quoting article 3 sub-sections D of the NPP Party Constitution to illustrate his point, ?General 1? as he is sometimes affectionately referred to fumed that any one that initiates court action without first seeking a solution from the party?s structures will be dealt with he warned.
He regretted that some party members refuse to resort to the laid down procedures of the party and go out there washing their dirty linen and urged all party faithful to use party structures to resolve any misunderstanding. ?Further more, he noted that the party was a voluntary venture for people of like-minded and so if one decides to seek solutions to their internal party challenges elsewhere it makes it very difficult for the leadership of the party to intervene and this will not be taken lightly.
Filling Fee
Responding to the issue of high filling fee, ?General One? explained that the leadership of the party has taken cognisance of some poor constituencies and these will be given some consideration when the time comes. He revealed that filling fees and other fees paid by aspirants are normally solicited from friends and well-wishers so as to make the burden lighter for the aspirant.
NC Meeting
In a related development a press release said yesterday?s NC meeting discussed and reflected on the various views expressed and the petitions received with regards to its earlier decisions taken by the National Executive Committee (NEC). ?The National Council accepts the principle of affirmative action as far as female representation is concerned.? However, the National Council directed that a comprehensive affirmative action policy and implementation framework be worked out for adoption at the next annual National Conference slated for November, 2015.
In the meantime, the National Council has directed that the proposal on women only primaries be withdrawn. Nevertheless, the National Council is encouraging more women to offer themselves for the upcoming Parliamentary primaries. The National Council also varied the road-map leading to the conduct of the Parliamentary primaries.
