DAMASCUS — Russian airstrikes over the past five days have destroyed 1,000 tankers of stolen crude oil the Islamic State (IS) group was moving in the countryside of Syria’s northern province of al-Raqqa, state news agency SANA reported on Monday.


Citing a Syrian military source, SANA said the Russian airstrikes also destroyed oil refineries in the southern countryside of al-Raqqa, the de facto capital of the IS group, and in the northern countryside of the eastern province of Deir al-Zour. (Russia-Syria-IS)

CAIRO — The Egyptian forces shot dead five illegal Sudanese migrants on Monday as they were attempting to cross the borders between Egypt’s Sinai and Israel, the Egyptian military spokesman said in a statement.

“The forces tasked with securing the border area spotted at dawn today a group of Africans trying to sneak from west to east through the international border in cooperation with criminal elements involved in illegal immigration,” Brigadier-general Mohamed Samir said in the statement. CAIRO — Egypt concluded on Monday evening the second phase of its long-awaited and first parliamentary elections under President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi with an expectedly low turnout.
