As Ghana prepares to head to the polls in 2016 to elect the next, political parties are gearing up to seal their candidates. The New Patriotic Party and National Democratic Congress have all gone to congress to elect their parliamentary and presidential candidates as per the rules of their party constitution and the that of the electoral commission.


To this effect the Progressive People’s Party PPP has issued a statement indicating its intention to open for nominations both presidential aspirants across the country from December 2 to December 31 2015.

In the statement copied to NewsGhana.com.gh, the party’s National Committee has pegged the form at GHC10,000.00 and another GHC30,000.00 for filing of nomination.

The party will also offer 50 percent discount on all charges for women and physically challenged candidates.

The Progressive People’s Party will open its nomination for the 2016 Presidential race on December 2, 2015 and close on December 31, 2015.

The Party invites members in good standing to pick up nomination forms to contest for the Flagbearer of the Party in the upcoming 2016 General Elections.

The Party has also set January 13, 2016 to begin the vetting process which should end by January 27, 2016.

Election of the Party’s Flagbearer will take place on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at all the 275 Constituencies in the country and the Presidential Candidate so elected will be confirmed at the Party’s Fourth Anniversary National Convention to be held in Accra on Saturday, February 27, 2016.

The National Committee has approved a fee of GHC10,000.00 to pick a Presidential nomination form while filing of the form will attract a fee of GHC30,000.00 per candidate. Women and physically handicapped prospective candidates will be offered a 50% rebate.

Further rules of engagement with regards to the campaign will be communicated to the presidential aspirants when they pick their forms at the Party’s National Headquarters office.

While many of the 275 constituencies have elected their Parliamentary Candidates to contest the 2016 General Elections, those who have not done so are encouraged to complete the process by December 31, 2016 under the supervision of their Regional Executive.
