ABUJA, Nigeria’s capital territory, will come alive on March 27 when the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) rolls out the drum to decorate President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as its Grand Patron.

The Grand Patron’s dinner earlier scheduled for NICON Hilton has now been confirmed to hold at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton, and would also see all the governors in attendance as well as captains of industries, to be supported by Olympians and sportsmen and women.

The event coincides with the celebration of 60 meritorious years of the Olympic movement in Nigeria. Programme for the event includes the formal investiture of Dr. Jonathan as the NOC Grand Patron, a traditional role that had been performed by his predecessors in government.

Chairman of NOC Marketing Commission and President of Nigeria Hockey Federation, Patrick Ukah, said the night would be memorable, as it would be used to unveil the robust commercial opportunities that corporate partners could leverage on, as well as prepare Nigerian athletes for the London 2012 Olympics.

“It will be a night to remember for the President, governors and captains of industries as well as stakeholders in sports,” Ukah said. “The Olympics is the most exciting sports event in the world and Nigeria, no doubt, is set to sparkle in London.”

He further lauded the Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi, and NSC Director-General, Dr. Patrick Ekeji, for providing the enabling environment for the event.
