Kennedy Agyapong

Samuel Ata Akyea, counsel for Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin North, yesterday waited for hours for Rexford Wiredu, the principal state attorney in the trial of the MP in connection with the use of intemperate language, to arrive in court for a continuation of the case.

However, after waiting in vain outside the Accra Circuit Court, Mr. Akyea returned to the courtroom to tell the court presided over by Ebenezer Osei-Darko that  the state attorney was still not around and prayed for an adjournment of the case.

Mr. Akyea also prayed the court to grant permission for the MP to travel abroad for medical treatment. The trial judge consequently had the matter adjourned to September 16, 2012.

The MP has pleaded not guilty to provocation of riot and offensive conduct in breach of the peace.

He was initially charged with attempted treason genocide and terrorism but freed after the state attempted to have his trial at the High Court started fresh.

He is on self-cognizance bail.
