A total of 90 women have filed their nominations with the Electoral Commission to contest the upcoming Assembly Member Election in the Western Region,out of 1256 candidates.

For the Unit Committee elections, 292 women have given themselves up for the elections out of a total of 2777 candidates.

Mrs. Angelina Tagoe, the Western Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, who made this known to the Ghana News Agency in Sekondi, entreated the eligible voting population within the Region to actively participate in the upcoming district level and unit committee elections to advance democracy at the grassroots level.

“All registered voters must keep the 17the day in December in mind and come in the morning till evening, where the whole process will come to an end.”

Mrs Tagoe said the Region was set and prepared for the elections adding, “We have received all needed logistics ahead of time to enable us commence the electoral process within time”.

She indicated that already, notice of polls were posted in communities by the EC to signal citizens on candidates contesting for what positions within their locality.

Mrs. Tagoe urged the citizenry to put in the same enthusiasm that characterised national elections to the districts level elections since it was the cradle of the practice of the decentralisation and democracy.
