The New Patriotic Party (NPP) newly elected candidate for Korle Klottey constituency, Nii Noi Nortey, has extended an invitation to his competitors in the just ended primaries to join him work hard to ensure that the party reclaims the parliamentary seat from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).

?I would like to call upon my colleagues, Lawyer Philip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah, to rather come and join the ship. Let us think about the party first. I will like to stretch forth my arms onto them and ask them to come ? let us be more united and forge ahead to win the 2016 elections,? an elated Nortey told journalists in his victory speech Sunday after being declared winner in the party?s primaries.

Mr. Nortey had entered into the race amidst controversy over his academic qualification with some party stalwarts going to court to seek for an interlocutory injunction over the party?s parliamentary primaries for the constituency until the issues surrounding his certificates were resolved.

But an Accra High Court Thursday, July 30, 2015, dismissed the injunction application restraining the elections from coming off.

Following the court?s ruling, the party set August 2, 2015 for the much talked about polls at the party?s national headquarters in Accra.

Nii Noi Nortey, polled 393 votes out of the 434 total valid votes cast to beat his rivals, Lawyer Philip Addison and Nii Adjei Tawiah. The two polled 22 and 19 votes respectively.

About 369 delegates did not vote in the election which was characterized with violence.

Nii Noi commenting further told the teeming party followers that ?the battle has just started? and whatever he went through prior to the polls has rather toughened him for election 2016.

?It hasn?t been an easy journey and whatever has happened and whatever I went through has rather made me tough for election 2016,?? he noted to the applause of the party?s followers.

He thanked the delegates for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to rest but rather work hard to see to it that Korle Klottey reclaims the parliamentary seat from the NDC.

He also promised to work very hard to get a secured win ?that will grant Nana Akufo-Addo, the party?s flagbearer, more victory in 2016.?
