At least 10 gunmen were killed during inter-state operations by troops in Nigeria’s northwest region, said the defense headquarters on Sunday.
In a statement made available to Xinhua in Abuja, the defense headquarters confirmed that the operations were carried out in the two neighboring northwestern states of Sokoto and Zamfara on Saturday.
The hideouts of the gunmen were successfully raided during the operation, the statement said.
Eighteen hostages, including 10 men, four women, and four minors, were also freed during the military operation, according to the statement.
A local gun supplier known to be connected with the gunmen was also nabbed during the operation in Sokoto.
Several arms and ammunition owned by the gunmen were also recovered, the statement added. Enditem
