The statement said the visit is part of a sub-regional tour launched by Nigeria’s newly elected president to meet with his West African counterparts.

Benin’s President Boni Yayi will discuss with his Nigerian counterpart issues concerning reinforcement of cooperation between the two countries as well as matters of regional and international concern, especially security, conflict situation on the African continent and the fight against Boko Haram terrorist group.

A document on bilateral cooperation between Benin and Nigeria revealed that since 1975, the two countries had taken joint initiatives aimed at improving the integration of their economies through the creation of two companies, Save sugar company and Onigbolo cement factory.

Official statistics show that each year, Benin exports to Nigeria goods worth 130 billion CFA Francs (219 million U.S. dollars). Enditem
