Nigerian police seize 34,000 live cartridges

The police in Nigeria have recovered 34,865 live cartridges from Togo at a bordered town in Nigeria’s southwestern state of Ogun, an official said on Saturday.

The state’s police chief Ahmed Iliyasu told reporters that a mini truck delivering the ammunition was intercepted by a team of border patrol, and three suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.

Iliyasu said the cartridges were neatly concealed inside the truck and was being transported to the southeast city of Onitsha in Anambra State.

The police have commenced further investigations into the matter and would soon charge the suspects at court, the police chief told reporters.

Nigeria has long been troubled by security threats including Boko Haram insurgency, farmer-herdsman conflicts and armed bandits, leading to thousands of deaths every year. Enditem
