The West African country Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, who stated this in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, said the present security situation in parts of the country did not warrant the use of fireworks or knock-outs.

“It has come to the knowledge of the Nigeria Police Force that some Nigerians have started using fireworks and firecrackers in anticipation of the yuletide celebrations,” he added.

Arase said the warning became crucial as there were reports that hoodlums were now using fireworks to confuse Nigerians in order to carry out their nefarious activities.

He said that violators of the ban would be made to face the wrath of the law.

The country’s fundamentalists had laid a siege on northern part of Nigeria with incessant bomb explosions and killings, forcing residents to flee to other parts of the West African country believed to be safe. Enditem
