Nigeria Ghana relations

Nigeria and Ghana are two of the most important members of ECOWAS and the Commonwealth of Nations.

The Commandant of the NDA, Maj. Gen. Chukwuemeka Onwuamaegbu, made the announcement in Kaduna, while receiving members of Course 33 students of Ghana’s Armed Forces Command and Staff College on a study tour to the academy.

Represented by his Deputy, AVM. Shadrach Dillimonu, the Commandant said that Nigeria had enjoyed military training from Ghana and is willing to commence a cadet exchange programme between the two countries.

“Nigeria and Ghana are known to be contributing to peacekeeping operations since time immemorial, therefore, we see no reason why we should not continue with the cooperation, especially in the area of peace operations,” he said.

The Team Leader of the students and Director, Higher Education, Ghana AFCSC, Col. Kenneth Oseikwado, said the purpose of the visit was to improve on military training and explore other areas of cooperation.

He said the theme of their study; ‘Promoting African Integration through Military Cooperation’, was meant to “foster unity and draw lessons from Nigeria to further shape Ghana’s military”.

“We are optimistic that our study tour to the NDA will draw lessons that will be able to shape our formations back home,” Oseikwado said.

“We are in Nigeria as part of a study tour and it’s always nice to go back to the roots of officer training outside development, and the NDA is doing the right thing to shape the Nigerian Armed Forces.

“Already we are doing many joint training programmes both for the students and resource persons to share their knowledge and wealth of experience,” Oseikwado said.
