A Nigerian police officer abducted over the weekend was rescued unhurt on Sunday night, a police spokesperson said Monday.

Musa Rabo, an assistant commissioner of police in charge of central north city of Suleja, was successfully rescued by a combined team of operatives from Kaduna, Niger and Abuja, backed up by members of the elite special forces of the police.

Frank Mba, national police spokesperson, confirmed the latest development to Xinhua in Lagos.

Two male suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, he said, adding that investigation into the incident is ongoing.

According to him, the officer was travelling in his civil dress, with his private vehicle and without escort or any special security at the time of the incident.

“He was not targeted as a cop. It was purely an opportunistic crime, indiscriminately and maliciously targeted at citizens using that particular road. He was, perhaps, positionally unlucky at the time of the incident,” he added. Enditem
