Authorities of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) announced on Saturday that it had deported 18 foreigners for lack of necessary traveling documents.

State Comptroller of NIS Tamuno Oyedeji told reporters in Minna, capital of Nigeria’s Niger State, that most of the deportees were citizens of Niger Republic.

The immigrants were handed over to the Niger Republic Immigration officers at Zangon Daura, a border post in neighboring Katsina State, she said.

According to her, their presence constituted security threat to the residents of the state and the country as whole.

Oyedeji vowed to continue to adopt proactive security measures to ensure the safety of all residents of the state.

She also urged citizens of the state to cooperate with the service, be vigilant and report any foreigner that visited their areas without proper documents. Enditem
