The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) says one of its staff on official assignment in Israel was on Dec. 14 involved in an accident in Bethlehem.
The NCPC made the disclosure in a statement signed by the commission?s head of media, Celestine Ogugua in Abuja on Wednesday.
It said that the official, whose name was not disclosed, was receiving prompt medical attention in a hospital in Jerusalem and was in a stable condition.
Though the cause of the accident was not disclosed by the commission, it said that Israeli security authorities were already investigating the matter.
“The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission received with shock the news of an accident on Saturday, Dec. 14 involving one of its staff in Bethlehem in the course of his official assignment.
“Presently, he is in one of the best hospitals in Jerusalem where he is receiving prompt medical attention.
“However, reports reaching the commission reveals that the Israeli security operatives have stepped into the matter and their findings will be communicated to the commission as soon as they are through with their investigations,?? it read.
The commission however reiterated its commitment to the safety and welfare of all Nigerian pilgrims in Israel for the pilgrimage.
It said that the commission was doing its best to ensure that the remote and immediate causes of the accident were uncovered and prevented from happening again.
