Speaking at a news conference in Lagos, Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, said the army had massively degraded the capacity of the militants in carrying out “spectacular attacks” they previously staged.

He said in just six months of the Buhari administration, Boko Haram, which in the past controlled a territory larger than an entire geo-political zone in Nigeria, had been reduced to a “fleeing, bomb throwing, cowardly and disorganized” army.

Among the areas where Boko Haram had been kicked out was Bama, a town in the restive northeastern Borno state, which was the self-declared headquarters of their Caliphate, the official said.

He said all Boko Haram could do now was to attack “soft targets”, like markets, motor parks, mosques and entertainment centers, killing civilians.

He was responding to critics of the government arguing the success against Boko Haram has been exaggerated.
He also commended the civilian joint task force that he said had played a major role in assisting the military in fighting the militants. Enditem
