The Nigerian police force on Saturday said three policemen have been dismissed for allegedly misusing their service rifles.

Their dismissal followed an accusation of reckless shooting that led to one death while on duty on Jan. 1 in the southwestern state of Lagos.

Chike Oti, a spokesman for the police in Lagos, said the dismissed policemen disproportionately responded with bullets to some youths alleged to have hurled some non-ballistic missiles at them.

This led to the death of one and injury of another in Amukoko area of Lagos.

The dismissed policemen would be charged to court next week, he said, adding the Lagos police chief ordered their prosecution. Enditem
