Arising from its commitments towards improved power transmission and distribution in the state, the Delta State Government yesterday said that it has so far invested over N15Billion in the Federal Government?s Independent Power Project (IPP).
The State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who disclosed this yesterday during the just concluded two-day Anioma Economic Summit held in Asaba, the state capital, is part of the state?s counterpart funding for the setting up of power generation and distribution in the state.
The Governor who spoke through the State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Dr. Kingsley Emu also disclosed that as part of the state government?s infrastructural project, particularly in electricity, the state government in partnership with private investors has reached advanced stage on the completion of the IPP project that would produce power to be transmitted and distributed throughout the state.
While saying that his administration will continue to consolidate on its vision of entrenching a robust, diversified, stable and economically viable state, geared at building and leaving behind a ?modern Delta State, the state government has since intensified its pursuit of local and foreign investors, which he explained has been yielding positive results.
Part of the results according to the Governor is the resolve by Transcorp Hilton Hotels to establish two five-star hotels in the state to be located in Asaba and Warri.
?In addition, Heirs Holdin, a major Private Sector firm in Nigeria, plans to establish a $1.4 Billion Dollars Fertilizer plant in Burutu, one of the riverine communities in the state?.
?The Federal Government, in close partnership with the state government is also building a multi-million dollars landing jetty in Okwagbe, a community located along the tributaries of the River Niger, to support the state?s transport infrastructure? Uduaghan disclosed.
The Governor stressed that the efforts are part of the deliberate plans and strategies by his administration in seeking economic platforms that would sustain the state economy beyond oil, as encapsulated in the state government?s ?Delta Beyond Oil? paradigm.
?I am a strong advocate of the diversification of the state?s economy. This is crucial for attaining the sustainable development of the state. We identified key enablers that would facilitate the realisation of this vision.
?These include adequate infrastructure, human capital development and adequate security of lives and property. As part of our strategic approach, we are implementing our holistic strategic by conceptualizing the brand, ?Delta Beyond Oil? Uduaghan explained.
Our corresponding reports that the Summit which was organized by a socio-cultural group-Oganihu Anioma, with the theme; ?Industrialisation and Youth Empowerment, was attended by who-is-who in the Anioma nation of Delta North Senatorial District of the state.
