As Christians world over observe Christmas which is the birthday of Jesus Christ and exchange gifts as well as? pleasantries to friends, neighbours and relations, religious? leaders and traditional rulers have continued to call on the Christians and Muslims? in borno state and country at large to pray for peace, unity and stability of the country.

The Archbishop of the Anglican Communion Maiduguri Diocese, Archbishop Emmanuel Kana Mani has appealed to both the Christian and Muslim communities in the state, northeast and country at large to continue to pray for peace, unity and progress of the country yesterday at the church service marking the 2014 Christmas held at the Anglican Church of Maiduguri Diocese Dalori area.
He also urged the leaders of the country to play politics according to the rules of the game in the interest of peace, unity and stability of the country while reminding the leaders that they will surely accord for all their deeds whether good or bad before God.
The cleric however noted that God is forgiving for those who will confess their sins and turn to the right by way having the fear of God and being honest, sincere and upright especially the politicians in fulfilling their promises to their people.
He also warned those Nigerian leaders perpetrating corruption in the name of politics to be mindful of their deeds describing corruption as gravious act tantamount to someone finding his or herself in hell fire.
While praying for peace in the state and country at large he called on the politicians to shun political thuggery and fulfil their ledges to the electorates .
He also appealed to the boko haram terrorist to lay down their arms and embrace dialogue noting that there is no how or where peace or reconciliation is achieved through exchange of fire or crisis.
The Archbishop lamented on the number of innocent souls that have died during the insurgency and larger for their gentle souls to rest in perfect peace and consoled with? those at the IDPs camps within and outside the state.
Similarly, the Shehu of Boron, His Eminence, Alhaji Abubakar Garbai Ibn Umar El Kanemi has enjoined the Christian community to join the Muslim Umma in parting for peace in the state and country at large while commenting the efforts of the federal government in providing security in the state and northeast sub region of Nigeria.
The royal father also commended? the expertise and commitment of the military in the state in tackling the boko haram insurgency while wishing the Christian community a frightful and joyous Christmas and quick return of peace to borno in a statement signed by the Secretary of Borno Emirate Council Alhaji Laisu and made available to newsmen.
He also appealed to the boko haram insurgents to embrace peace and resolve to dialogue to end the insurgency while sympathising with the internally displaced persons from the 20 local government areas of the state on refuge in Maiduguri and some other parts of the country.
Meanwhile, Governor Kashim Shettima of Brink State has joined others in wishing the Christian community a successful and peaceful Christmas celebration.
He assured the people of the state that government is doing everything possible within its power to ensure quick return of peace in the state.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Director of Press to the Governor, Mr. Ndahi Sawa, the governor also assured the IDPs at various camps and homes of their loved ones and relations that his government? will not hesitate to continue to assist and support them while efforts are being made to rebuild their destroyed homes.
He also implored the boko haram terrorist to reconsider their actions and resolve to dialogue whatever may be their mission which h is more civilized and? peaceful rather than killing innocent people who lawfully going about their normal businesses? and bombing of public and private structures to cause havoc on innocent citizens and truncate government efforts in service delivery to its people.
Governor Shettima also noted that there has never a reconciliation or dialogue through the use of? bullets against the people who do not know anything and have no corrolation with what is going on describing the terrorists acts as barbaric and uncivilized as well as UnIslamic.
He prayed for quick return of peace and appealed to the people to continue to be law abiding citizens as measures have been put in
