Nigerian police have arrested 11 suspected leaders of cult groups in a move to tackle cultism and violence-related crimes in southern Edo State, the spokesperson said on Thursday.wpid-NigerianPoliceForce-men4.jpg
The suspects, believed to be linked to recent cult-related killing, were arrested at different locations in the state on Tuesday, Emmanuel Ojukwu, the country’s police spokesperson added.
Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, on Wednesday, dispatched the Special Crack Squad to Edo, amid concerns over violent crimes and activities of cultists.
The latest arrest brings to 56 suspects apprehended in connection with cult-related violence in the state, Ojukwu told Xinhua, noting that the suspects were under interrogation.
There has been an increase in cult-related killings recently in the state due to suspected reprisals. Enditem
